Dr. Emily Sherrard grew up in New Jersey and attended Duke University where she was a member of the women's cross country and track team. Following in the footsteps of mother and grandfather, she attended Thomas Jefferson University for medical school. During medical school Dr. Sherrard completed her first triathlon and fell in love. After graduation she decided to pursue competing in triathlons at the professional level. After a few seasons of racing, she returned to medicine and moved to Greenville, SC for her family medicine residency. Dr. Sherrard enjoyed building relationships with her patients and caring for whole families but felt like something was missing so she decided to pursue a fellowship in sports medicine.
Dr. Sherrard recently completed her fellowship at MAHEC in Asheville, NC. Her experience solidified her love of musculoskeletal medicine and caring for athletes and active individuals. As a longtime runner and endurance athlete, Dr. Sherrard is excited to be able to meld her passions of medicine and sports to care for active patients and athletes. Dr. Sherrard is the sole medical provider at Advanced Spine and Sports and will assist in providing all our patients with sports medicine needs. Dr. Sherrard has a particular interest in caring for endurance athletes and runners, postpartum return to sport, and evaluating and treating relative energy deficiency in sport.
Outside of the office Dr. Sherrard can be found spending time with her husband and son, running, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She moved on from triathlon to marathon running and has since ran the New York City and Boston Marathons. She says it may sound like a running sin, but of the two New York City is her favorite.
